"Background
Pain from uterine contractions following delivery, known as after pains, may be a barrier to initiation of breastfeeding. This is particularly problematic in multiparous women, as after pains tend to increase in severity with increasing parity (Holdcroft, Snidvongs, Cason, Doré, & Berkley, 2003). Although this is a very real phenomenon for multiparas, the paucity of research of after pains severity is evidenced by the lack of recent publications on this topic. Some multiparas may experience more severe pain after their infant is born than they experience during labor and delivery itself. Furthermore, after pains may persist for2 or 3 days (Deussen, Ashwood, & Martis, 2011), exceeding the duration of the pain of their labor and delivery."[Extrait de l'article] |
