Titre : Men of diverse cultures: knowledge and attitudes about breastfeeding (2002) Auteurs : CA Pollock, Auteur ; R Bustamante-Forest, Auteur ; G Giarratano, Auteur Type de document : Article : texte imprimé Dans : Journal of obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal nursing (Vol.31 n°6, Novembre Décembre 2002) Article en page(s) : pp.673-679 Langues: Anglais Index. décimale : SO.2 (Paternité) Catégories : Culture ; Père Résumé : OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was three-fold: (a) to describe the knowledge of and attitudes on breastfeeding of men from diverse racial backgrounds, (b) to determine the relationship between knowledge and attitude toward breastfeeding, and (c) to determine the relationship between specified demographic variables and men's knowledge or attitudes on breastfeeding. DESIGN: Descriptive SETTING: An inner-city teaching hospital and its associated prenatal clinic located in the southern United States. PARTICIPANTS: One hundred men from diverse cultures who spoke either English or Spanish, were 18 years of age or older, and were present at either the hospital maternity units or associated prenatal clinic. RESULTS: Eighty-one percent (81%) of the men in this study indicated that they would prefer their infants to be breastfed. Ethnicity and age were found to be linked to attitudes and knowledge of breastfeeding. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that men had a strong desire that their infants be breastfed and wanted to be included in decisions concerning breastfeeding.

Titre : LATCH: a breastfeeding charting system and documentation tool (1994) Auteurs : JL Jensen, Auteur ; S Wallace, Auteur ; P Kelsay, Auteur Type de document : Article : texte imprimé Dans : Journal of obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal nursing (Vol.23 n°1) Article en page(s) : pp.27-32 Langues: Anglais Index. décimale : PF.3 (Grilles d?évaluation) Catégories : Outil d'évaluation Résumé : Nurses most often use a subjective "well/fair/poor" system to assess and document breastfeeding. LATCH is a breastfeeding charting system that provides a systematic method for gathering information about individual breastfeeding sessions. The system assigns a numerical score, 0, 1, or 2, to five key components of breastfeeding. Each letter of the acronym LATCH denotes an area of assessment. "L" is for how well the infant latches onto the breast. "A" is for the amount of audible swallowing noted. "T" is for the mother's nipple type. "C" is for the mother's level of comfort. "H" is for the amount of help the mother needs to hold her infant to the breast. The system is visually represented in the same form as the Apgar scoring grid, and the numbers are handled in the same way. With the LATCH system, the nurse can assess maternal and infant variables, define areas of needed intervention, and determine priorities in providing patient care and teaching.

Titre : Mothers'satisfaction with their neonates'breastfeeding behaviors (1991) Auteurs : MK Matthews, Auteur Type de document : Article : texte imprimé Dans : Journal of obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal nursing (Vol.20 n°1) Article en page(s) : pp.49-55 Langues: Anglais Index. décimale : PF.3 (Grilles d?évaluation) Catégories : Evaluation ; Nourrisson et enfant de 0 à 2 ans Résumé : This study examined the relationship between breastfeeding competence in neonates and maternal satisfaction with breastfeeding during the early postpartum period. Mothers assessed their neonates' feeding behaviors and checked the satisfaction item on the study instrument at every feeding. Feeding scores and maternal scores were analyzed. The higher the neonate scored (i.e., the more effective the feeding), the more pleased the mother was with the feeding. Neonates of primiparous mothers had lower mean scores than neonates of multiparous mothers, and primiparous mothers were displeased with a higher percentage of feedings compared with the multiparous mothers (p less than .05).
